JAPANESE-STYLE ROPE BONDAGE
FOR ART AND PLEASURE

Shibari & Kinbaku

Rope and tying have a very long, deep tradition in Japanese culture, so it's little surprise that it would be raised to an artform in the bedroom there. It's sensual, beautiful, and connective, and for all of those reasons, has attracted practitioners and admirers around the world.

Shibari means very simply 'To Tie' in Japanese. Another term is Kinbaku ('Tight Binding') . Rooted originally in the feudal Japanese samurai art of binding prisoners decoratively according to social rank, it has evolved into an art that encompasses everything from beautiful decoration, to sensual restraint, to daring and evocative suspensions.
